Who has right about the Oak Island mystery?

2013-08-18
Memorial stone on Oak Island - Stein Morten Lund

It`s too early to declare the big mystery on the Canadian island Oak Island for solved. Despite over 200 years old searching for treasures on the island nothing of value has been found, but discoveries of several kinds of clues still inspire treasure hunters to search on the island. One of them is Petter Amundsen from Norway.

Amundsen has now an ongoing search for a treasure. After several years of struggle against the authorities and land owners, he has now put himself on a plane to Canada to start negotiations with the authorities to drain the pond out of water. History Channel will follow him in his struggles to reveal the mystery for once.

Amundsen can not reveal the details about why he travels to Canada right now. He suggests however a scenario where they are allowed to drain the pond at Oak Island. - There is no digging, but investigations. We have applied for a so-called "non evasive approach." It is not intervention. We are not alone with the treasure in hand, he said to the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet recently.

The documentary "Sweet Swan of Avon - The Shakespeare Treasure" was shown on Norwegian TV NRK in 2009 in 4 episodes. It`s based on a book Organisten (The Organ Player) written by Petter Amundsen and Erlend Loe from Norway.

Petter Amundsen has also recently published the book Oak Island and the Treasure Map in Shakespeare (2012), and in the documentary “Shakespeare: The Hidden Truth” (2012). Here he presents what at first sight appears as a wild and almost absurd theory; that Francis Bacon was deeply involved in the writing of Shakespeare’s plays, that he also was involved in hiding something on Oak Island. His theory is that the first folio of Shakespeare’s plays contains codes revealing this, and that it also presents a kind of map directing us towards Oak Island.

Here are some recent published books, articles and sources about the Oak Island mystery:

So who has right? Will the mystery ever be solved?

This mystery has been on my mind since I read about in my childhood. I was on Oak Island in 1997 and spoke to two of the landowner. One them guide me around in his museum showing strange items found on the island. It made me even more confused. As far I can see, based on all clues there are no complete theory that gives a reasonable answer. There are some many missing links.

What`s expected to be found hidden under Oak Island? Nothing? Inca gold? Pirate treasure, A temple? A UFO? The Holy Grail? Noah`s ark? The Ark of the Covenant also known as the Ark of the Testimony? Shakespeare`s lost original manuscripts? Something else?
