State of the Media: The Social Media Report 2012 - Nielsen

2013-01-09
Social media report 2012 NielsenSocial media is coming of age. Since the emergence of the first social media networks some two decades ago, social media has continued to evolve and offer consumers around the world new and meaningful ways to engage with the people, events and brands that matter to them. Now, years later, social media is still growing rapidly, becoming an integral part of our daily lives.

Social networking is now truly a global phenomenon.

This report reveals insights such as:

  • What's driving the continued growth of social media?
  • How is consumer usage of social media evolving?
  • How is social media impacting marketing?
  • Who is using Pinterest?

Social networks and blogs are still the top online destination
According to a recent report published by NM Incite and Nielsen, consumers continue to spend more time on social networks than on any other category of sites—roughly 20% of their total time online via personal computer (PC), and 30% of total time online via mobile. Facebook remains the top social network, but new social media sites continue to emerge and catch on. 4 in 5 active internet users are visiting social networks and blogs.”

How does the continued growth of engaged social networking consumers play a role in your marketing plans for 2013?

To learn more about the state of social media, read NM Incite and Nielsen’s Social Media Report 2012.
