Oulu, Finland - Under the magic red glowing light

Oulu, Finland - Under the magic red glowing light

The magic midnight sun in Oulu, northern Finland, creates an unique atmosphere. Since nights during the Finnish summer are almost as light as day, you can party all night long under a beautiful golden glow stretched across the horizon.

The magic midnight sun turned me really on in Oulu. Tried to make most out of it during these extra hours of light. Partying and Soumi Rokkia under the midnight sun in Finland is like standing in the spotlight on a scene. Everyone who stay out in the night here are shining and the magic light are really turning them on. The party has started and everyone is shining now. Midnight Sun – also known as the nightless night or polar day - get you into the best party mood for a long hard night.

Time to float on the water on a late evening in Oulu. Observed two surfers balancing easy on a board. Both of them and the water are stongly illuminated by the midnight sun. Many sights and activities are open at night during these endless days here. One thing is exploring the wilderness on a surfing board or by a sea kayak under the magical light.

Oulu is located only about 100 miles (170 kilometres) south from the Arctic Circle, the nature in the Oulu region is unique. Technically the midnight sun is only ever visible north of the Arctic Circle, which is a good two hours drive from Oulu. However, it will be very light at all times in Oulu during June - September!

Said to be one of the most iconic of Finland's natural phenomenon, the Midnight Sun occurs in Finland due to the tilt of the earth's axis which places regions above the Arctic Circle. The almost unending daylight goes on for up to 70 consecutive days. Dark Arctic winters have their counterpart in one of the most iconic of Finnish natural phenomena, the Midnight Sun.

Many wonder how Finns survive with no sunlight in the winter, and nature replies with 24 hours of it in the summer, but that`s another story. As you observe Finns in the hot summerdays, you will understand that they don`t waste their time with sleeping.
