As one of the most welcoming, hospitable people in the world, the people in Jordan have their own rituals for guests. The first gesture which is associated with Bedouins hospitality is offering tea. The second is also related to drinking and it take you to new heights, or shall I say causes frightening visions.

Hidden behind an almost impenetrable barrier of rugged mountains, the rock-carved city of Petra is full of mysterious charm. The approach through the cool gloom of the Siq, a long narrow gorge whose steeply rising sides all but obliterate the sun, provides a dramatic contrast with the magic to come. Suddenly the gorge opens into a natural square dominated by Petra's most famous monument, the Khasneh, whose intricately carved facade glows in the dazzling sun.

Suomenlinna fortress is the largest fortress in the world. It`s not only a major military monument worthy of the UNESCO World Heritage List, but also home to about 900 Finns who live in the renovated barracks. For me walking around there for some hours one sunny day in July 2005, could enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and explore the walls, rooms, chambers and labyrinths.

So far they have been at the mountain for 57 days. The last 3 days from 11 to 14 July have been uncertain due to turbulent weather. With a positive weather forecast, the members started out on a 4-5 day period on Sunday. However, the weather got worse yesterday. Heavy snowfall forced all members in the expedition down from the mountain. Before this all the Norwegian members passed the 7000-border, and established Camp 3. They still need to be patient before they make their attemp to the top!

Far in the desert in Dana, south in Jordan, the condition for living is impossible, except for the Bedouin people. They live so close to the nature that they knew each inch of it, and can make their life sustainable. By walking through deep canyons and high mountains, I reached the sandy and rocky desert area where the Bedouins live.
Everywhere I showed up by a camp, I was invited in to the people's tents for tea and for cooling down in the shadow. The weather was extremely warm, and so was the heart of the people

He is 21 year, from Arendal in Norway. At the moment he is finishing an unusual tour on ski. On 16 June he started on an almost 500 kilometres tour on skiing through Denmark, from the border to Germany to Skagen. Norwegians are born with ski on their feet, and so is Eirik. Just as famous Norwegian polar explorers as Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen, he also likes expeditions on ski, but not on snow. Sand is much better for him. When he has finnished the skiing in Denmark, he is ready for something bigger. As he dream abouts: crossing Sahara on ski. This is another wild expedition from Norway!
The Sahara is the world's largest subtropical desert. To get an impression how large Sahara is, this land area can be compared with the entire land area of the whole United States of America (including all states). The Norwegian Viking Eirik will be crossing countries as Mauritania, Morocco and Algeria in north Africa. On his way he should expect to handle many challenges, for instance the heat ..........

Rwenzori Mountains National Park is the location of Africa's third highest peak, Mount Margherita at 5109 metres. Rwenzori Mountains National Park protects the eastern slopes and glacial peaks of the 120km-long misty Rwenzori Mountains, popularly called "Mountains of the Moon". It`s also a World Heritage Site of breathtaking natural beauty. As the staff in Lonely Planet considered it in 2001, after the national park was re-opened, they could not think of a better place in the world for hiking and mountaineering than this area.
It`s also famous for being the source of the Nile, which was first alluded to by the geographer Ptolemy circa 150 AD. Ugandans refer to their country as the "Pearl of Africa". When it comes to Rwenzori visitors can understand why.......

They will climb by the normal route from Pakistan and plan to reach the top in the middle of July.
