Birkebeinerne - The Last King - Dramatic movie from Norway

2016-03-25

This dramatic movie from Norway was released 12th February 2016. Year 1204. The Last King is the story of the escape which changed the history of Norway forever. Norway ravaged by civil war. King's illegitimate son showed in deep secret. A boy half kingdom will kill and two men will protect to the death. Birkebeiners is the story that everybody can, but nobody knows. It is the story of the escape of King child on skis over the mountains, which ended with Hakon Håkonsson as the longest serving king in Norway.

In central roles we find reputable actors Jakob Oftebro (Happens Vald), Kristofer Hivju (Torstein), Pål Sverre Hagen (Gisle) and Torbjorn Harr (Inge). Ane Ulimoen Øverli debuts in his first film role as Haakon Håkonssøn mother, Inga from Varteig.

Around 13,000 avid skiers were crossing the mountains of eastern Norway over the weekend in the annual Birkebeiner ski race, inspired by the original fast-skiing “Birkebeiner” insurgents of the 12th and 13th centuries. Now the latter are about to be immortalized in a new film based on their legendary rescue of an infant destined to become King Håkon IV.
